APAWV Members Get I-79 South Reopens After Acid Spill
Interstate I-79 reopens southbound following emergency repairs on a 500-foot section near the Goshen Road exit. Shortly after 1pm, Wednesday afternoon (9/18), a tractor-trailer overturned spilling some 4,900 pounds of acid on the roadway destroying the asphalt pavement. Shortly after the law enforcement and the WVDOH closed the interstate and secured an environmental cleanup company to address the acid spill. With the asphalt being severely deteriorated WVDOH brought in Mountaineer Contractors, Inc. along with subcontractors Swank Construction Company, LLC and Mid Atlantic Maintenance Corp. to mill, pave, and stripe the section. Initial estimates had the road reopening Saturday morning, however the three APAWV members were able to finish and reopen the roadway early Friday morning before the morning commute.
